University Profile
We’re a modern University with almost 17,000 students and 1,800 staff. We’ve been around for more than 50 years and we’re one of only a handful of universities to have a campus in a World Heritage Site – within walking distance of the high street and the internationally important Canterbury Cathedral.
Both Canterbury and our campus in Medway are easily accessible, less than an hour on the train from London. We offer hundreds of different courses in many subjects from teacher education and nursing, to arts and humanities and social sciences all with an emphasis on preparing you for employment and life after University. You’ll graduate from Christ Church with the skills and confidence you need for a bright future and a great career. In fact, 94% of our most recent UK undergraduates are in employment or further study within six months of completing their course (according to the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education survey) and nine out of 10 of our employed graduates are in graduate level jobs three-and-a-half years after finishing their studies, higher than the national average.
The University has excellent facilities including an award winning four floor library, the Students’ Union, sports, arts and culture venues, and various food courts and cafes. And we have ambitious and exciting plans for the future with a £150 million campus development, which includes a new centre for engineering and technology and a stunning new arts building opening in Autumn 2018. Kent and Medway’s first-ever medical school, in partnership with the University of Kent launches in 2020. In 2017 we were delighted to have received a prestigious Silver Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) rating for teaching excellence, ‘exceeding’ national quality requirements for UK universities. We are in the Top 20 in the UK for qualified teaching staff with 68% of our academic staff hold a teaching qualification in addition to their academic and professional qualifications (Hefce 2016). Canterbury Christ Church University has been ranked 51st in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) UK Student Experience Survey, moving-up 36 places. This makes us the most improved university in the past year and the highest ranked of any university in London or Kent excluding specialist institutions.
